The Next GAC Star - Bye Week

Born in Lima, Ohio, 1969 to a musical family. Stone Michaels showed a great affinity for singing. His mom says he was singing before he could talk. Stone’s mother was touring the mid-west circuit with her “sister” Barbara as the “Kentucky Sweethearts”. They were working on the show “The Mid-Western Hayride” when she met a guitar player from another band who became Stone Michaels’ father. After getting married both parents decided to stop their musical career and spend their time raising a family. They moved around the Ohio area for a few years until they decided to move to Tucson Arizona in 1978 where Stone Michaels finished out his school years. At the age of ten, Stone Michaels started sneaking his dad’s guitar out of the living room late at night. Over the next few months he taught himself to play by ear. One morning his dad found him asleep with his guitar. At that time his father went out and bought him his first acoustic guitar. At the age of eleven, Stone Michaels played his first show, which aired live on the local radio station. Proving how adventurous he is, his first live song was House of the Rising Sun. This show fired up the passion for his music. He was asked by some local musicians to join with their already semi-popular band. He eagerly accepted this invitation and the band was working three nights a week, playing all over southern Arizona. When his parents moved back to Ohio in 1987, Stone decided to move to Nashville. He stayed in a motel for only one week when he started working as a heating and air conditioning technician. A week after that he answered an ad in the paper for someone looking for a guitarist in the local nightclub scene. In turn Stone Michaels was introduce to Wayne Embry of Al Embry International who handled the promotions for such people as Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Conway Twitty. After doing a television show called “Country Crossroads”, Wayne Embry saw the entertainer in Stone Michaels and decided to bring him further in his career by forming a band around Stone. They played venues in and around the Nashville area such as The Music Row Tavern and laid down some studio tracks for what was to be a compilation album with Jerry Lee and Conway. This business relationship lasted for 5 years until Conway left us. At that time Stone took a couple years hiatus to ascertain where he wanted to go with his music career. He went back permanently to Tucson in 1992. He worked for nine years with a circuit band called “Sidekick” playing in Arizona and New Mexico. They opened several shows for Rick Trevino, Emilio, Ricochet, and Neal McCoy. Rick Trevino offered for them to tour with him. But, due to unforeseen circumstances this did not happen and soon after Stone went in search of better things. Since then Stone Michaels has been writing material and recording them in his home studio. He linked up with Gabriel Farago of The Gabriel Group to produce a demo c.d. and bring his career back into full swing. Stone Michaels and his group are ready to bring their energetic and exciting performance and sound to the world.
