BAND=INSTANT JONES **** Why Not Today?

OK, video takes too much time up front, get to the music.  Too much stock footage, that is not edited at a pace that excites.  The song is to cutesy and hangs on 1 verse too long at the top, before the chorus, which doesn't generate enough excitement... when it finally gets there.  Too much stock footage with out enough edits, band shots are too sparse... stock footage goes on too long at a each shot... and what exactly is the chick all about; except that pussy sells records...  YES WE KNOW..  The song is a rip off... between "The Clash" and "John Mayer."  The singer thinks he's Jimbo from the doors, comes off like he's the poet & profit of 07....  You need an actual story line in the video.. and go either rock or pop w/the music.  This sucks so hard, I am sure you will be a huge success; as you are hitting on every cliche' ever invented plus some...  Video needs a re-edit, the song needs to be less preachy.  I am pissed off I wasted my time on it at all...   The lyrics are a complete rip off of Charles Bukowski on a bad day... we have all had the Jones... and if they were this fucking preachy & Cliche... with this level of pretension... we would of gone on ahead and eaten that 12 gage... other than that its just awesome.  I Totally Hated it...   None whatsoever... except pretend...

    "Instant Jones," The video you have has no rhythm w/the music, if you want to know the problem ... and there is no story in the video. Being a music video editor is a totally different thing than being a feature or documentary director; as I can easily tell whoever edited this has no Music Video experience. As far as the song, choose distortion or clean, not 1/2 way between both and stop trying to be so poetic, in lyric, cause... you're just not. Part of all this is knowing, realizing and accepting what you are and making the most out of what you are is KEY. Throwing some clips together does not a Music Video make... its a separate skill from features or documentary, there cannot be a wasted frame; its much harder to make 3 minutes interesting, than it is a 3 hr movie. When VH-1 did a top music video of all time episode, I had edited 3 of the top 20. As well as working on features that are household names. I have some valid input here as I owned the first "Avid" video editor, available for commercial use in the U.S. Before that it was tape and a razor. A music video has to have a beat w/... balls ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTANT JONES says i see what you mean about the 3 minutes and 3 hours. we've had a lot of success with this video from our fans so far. and even had other local bands contact us for derek's info because they want to work with him. we really feel established in our sound and are sorry we can't appease your senses. thanks for your time. jones ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Balls Deep n' Your Girl says The point being, in the major leagues, you are going to have to up your game. On the regional level, sure it'll pass. Depends on what you want outta' your career. Something you can put on MTV, that holds up against National level material is where you want to aim, realistically would this one...??? hit em', straight in the... balls ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTANT JONES says no, it wouldn't say it is. but i don't really think mtv is the right place to aim for putting out a music video. that's kind of like aiming for the ground in outer space.:) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Balls Deep n' Your Girl says Instant Jones (In reply to posting of 10-30-07) I am probably going to Blog this, (If I feel like it @ some point) because, the point HERE is. You have placed your music in a NATIONAL competition. There is no telling who you will run into here, on line, besides the people running this contest. ... And by the way as an engineer; ...(I can tell you that it is much more difficult to bring a spacecraft back to earth, (safely) than it is to launch it into orbit. ... So your MTV analogy is out the window) You like to play word games, ...I used to, in my poet phase ... now I don't as they say in pornos, I cut to the fuck!!! 1st off, if you're telling me that being #1 on MTV/VH-1 & all the Big TV music channel acronyms, plus national radio airplay @#1. and all the trappings of success don't interest you; my answer is Bull Shit son, total Bull Shit... Every musician and band here dreams of that and ITS WHY they are here ... and its why you are here. Its OK to dream and DO dream big, but don't shit yourself about it, be honest... we all want wealth fame and the hammer of the gods, when we are young musicians, especially young Male musicians. I can't tell you have many times, I have had this altruistic BULL SHIT conversation, with young artists in my office... (before recommending not signing them,) because the playing of "conceptual semantics" = word games with this idea. The Ol' "Oh we don't want to rich and famous, we just wanna' make art."... A complete total & fraudulent, pile of steaming shite..., always! A short story, I call the "Big Fish, Small Pond story." When I got my 1st deal for my band (probably before you were born) on the way out to CA., I stopped in Denver Colo. to see my brother. While there, I also wanted to check out the hottest Guitar player in Denver, as I was the Guitar hotshot from my regional area... A 'Regional" Rock star ... if you will... (and you must at this point...LOL)... So I went to the guys show and I was underwhelmed he seemed a bit old, tired and just not really all that great. I did meet a really nice, very pretty young woman there. I was pretty green and from a very small town, so I didn't think much of it when she asked me to come back to her place for coffee and conversation. I really did think it was just for some friendly chit chat... (Yes I was that green)... At some point in the evening the most amazing thing happened, I found myself in bed with this amazing woman and during the course of our discourse & intercourse... I mentioned the band and guitar player we had seen. She astounded me by saying ..."oh... Bob, .... he's my boyfriend and you know, I am so sick of this shit; every weekend he plays these gigs and yes he is well known in Denver, but that's it!" ... "He's a big Fish in a Small pond." If only he had the balls to do what you're doing, going to L.A., to try it in the big-time"... Now A. ... I was amazed that I had even seen & met the guy and B. ... I was even more stupefied, as to why, I was doing his woman (well I might add), if he was such a famous hot shot, in such a big town. As I was entertaining the idea of sticking around in Denver longer than I should have, at the time, in effect possibly nulling & voiding contractual obligations. She was like a beacon of light and I realized, as I drove away the next morning, wow its all context! I have been kidding myself on a very small regional scale, now I get it. I have been .... "A Big Fish in a Small Pond"... Oh wow, wow and wow... Now I am going to be compared to the best the world has to offer. I packed my stuff and headed out a day or two later, based on her story, in large part and my need to go all the way with my dreams, which BTW: did come true on a level that more than satisfied me. The moral is, do you want to satisfy 500 to 1000 or even maybe if you are very lucky 5000 fans with mediocre material and kid yourself and stay on that level. ... Or do you want to effect 10 or 20 million people and possibly change their lives and the very face of reality, (At least their reality) through music. Its all about being 'Honest with yourself!!! ??? Come now, Ol' balls has seen and heard every ploy and BS story, that a band can offer and I am not being a total dick when I say. If you're happy at the level you're at.., then WTF are you doing here??? Its all good man and I really do wish you well, AGAIN... not hatin', just giving you a shot of good old fashioned "Experience" ... And in this case, I literally did learn the • Big Fish/Small Pond story, ... while deep in,... not thought, but another guys girl.... in deep ... to the... you got it! Balls PS; Yes I'm an awesome writer and have published a few books on the Music industry and the BS. that surrounds "The Fame Game." ;) PPS; Even more important, do you want the above story to ever, EVER happen to you??? Most likely not... I'm guessing. I do wish you well. ... and as they do come in pairs... Balls

    BAND=Dreaming Isabelle ***** SONG=Not Missing You
    OK the intro goes on way too long.... ...... Like this........ ..... ..... Not a bad verse and chorus! Its a demo, which I like -either demo or fully produced stuff. I gotta' say the parts are almost there, pretty close to cool, but you kill the energy the song has with...... SPACES THAT ARE FUCKING BORING. Music does need space, its AS important as the music.... the spaces you leave between the parts..... go on way too long.... making me wait too long for excitement. Its a demo, fine drop out the long guitar riff that is boring as fuck all through out the tune.... and you might have something decent. As is... it goes on & on & on with .... instrumental spaces that go on way, WAY too long with instrumental sections that are boring as fuck...... and the lyrics are suck ass terrible cliche' ridden shit.. has potential, but so far no... balls
