This band is a little too bit country for rock and a little too bit rock for the country genre, so their self-described as somewhere in between, called alt-country. Blackjack Road creates songs that are a "slice of life." Their songs are universal enough for various audiences to relate to. They write their songs as storytellers, so as to make it more relatable, and sometimes comical. Their influences include Cross Canadian Ragweed, Steve Earle, Miranda Lambert and Robert Earl Keen. Blackjack Road met at Mississippi State University and has been together for almost two years. Brittany Boggan on vocals, David Breland on bass and vocals, Brad Daigenault on guitar and vocals, and Ben Evans manning the drums, make up the band. Their ulitmate goal is to connect to listeners with their music."If someone can't relate to your songs in someway, you've failed as a songwriter. We want a fan to feel like we wrote a song especially for them." They write music that is also referred to as "angry chick music" as many of their songs express the frustrations of women and their reactions to these feelings. This is a common theme that runs through their music, as Brittany's voice strongly resonates with the melodies to express sentiment and emotion. What sets this band apart besides their dedication to listeners, is their hard-driving songs and Brittany's amazingly powerful voice always catches the audience's attention. "We work as hard as we can to make sure everyone at our shows has a good time." This band is addicted to playing live, performing over 85 shows the first year they got together, and continuing to play as much as possible. Blackjack Road is currently working on putting together a full-length CD, and will hopefully land gigs for big name bands after previously sharing the stage with Texas head-liners Roger Creager and The Eli Young Band. They utimately hope to be signed. Publicity Photos: http://sarassnaps.blogspot.com/2007/09/blackjack-road-at-bottling-co.html
