Music Nation is a Music Video Competition for Independent Artists

Candice Anitra began her career as an artist in the world of dance in Philadelphia, PA. After being derailed by knee injuries in high school (and again in college) she has thrown herself fearlessly into the worlds of music, visual arts, theater, and writing. Her loving parents, encouraged her to join Venture Theater's internship program in high school, where she discovered how moving the spoken word could be. Her love of theater compelled her to audition for and attend, the prestigious, Tisch School of the Arts, at New York University, where she graduated with a B.F.A. in Drama in 2000. Since moving to New York in 1996 Candice has performed in Kamal Sinclair Steele's,' The Beat', featuring M*E & Jungli, as a featured vocalist, as the lead singer of Brooklyn based True Story ft. Nemiss, as a featured vocalist with The Q Brothers, as well as participating in numerous other theater & dance pieces & performance art. Evident in her phrasing and lyrical content is the intense, poetic, and oft magical realist point of view she adopted as an embryo. Her first EP 'Easier' will be available this summer. Candice would be a great opening act for Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Amy Winehouse, or Gnarls Barkley, as she brings an experimental and organic vibe to her live performances. Among other musical inspirations are Ella Fitzgerald, William C. Manson, Bill Withers, Sam Cooke, Jungli, & Jaleel Shaw. Candice lives with her partner and two small daughters in Brooklyn, NY and is working on her first full length release, Soulstice: Bark Then Bite. She is also in the process of adapting her first full length play into a screenplay & comic strip.
