"Nine, Eight. Four, Three" I say in response to the question. I spin my chair to the left and tell Schuman. "We're going to have to hotfuel generator bravo."
"OK." He says as he looks over at the massive generator that provides power to our fire breathing behemoth of a gatlin gun called the Phalanx. " I'll wait till it gets down to Three, Five."
"Roger that. I need to take a leak." I say as I hand him the headset.
I make my way to the porta-jon. Do my business. And walk back to the "Mount".
"You know. I know the "T" wall barriers that we had were too tall before. But now that they've take them out. I don't feel as safe. We are totally exposed." I say to Schuman.
"Yeah. But at least we have more of a view of the surrounding area." He responds.
"Yeah. Well I'd rather be safe. Plus we had a control point of access to the Mount." I say frankly.
"We have confirmed." We hear through the computer speaker. Just as we look at the screen. We see "FIRE PERMIT" at the top left hand corner. This is it! As I look up at the LCS. I see a target. Just as Schuman hits the "HOLD FIRE" button. Releasing the chain from the collar of our mad dog as it slews and rises. Shaking our trailer and LCS.
"RELEASE HOLD FIRE!!! RELEASE HOLD FIRE!!! ALL MOUNTS!!!
"This is it Buddy!" I yell. As I take a look outside. I can hear the alarms sound. I look around and see soldiers walking around as thought they were taking a sunday stroll in the park. "Get DOWN!!!" I scream. Just then. BOOM! BOOM! and a second later. BOOM! I grab the cold metal handle to the armoured door on the LCS and pull it shut and lock it. BOOM! You can feel as though some unseen force shakes your insides with its fists. And I could swear that someone slams the LCS with a twenty pound sledge hammer.
Inside. The target data screen lights up. TRACK!! 16250yards at 526knots!! Whomp! The big Phalanx wakes up! TRACK!! 11230yards at 468knots! RATTLE!RATTLE! That gunmount shakes as the Phalanx adjusts to the new target. BOOM!!! Another mortar slams into the ground. The speakers are alive the sound of controlled chaos. My heart starts to speed up a little and I can feel the cold spike of adreneline coarsing through my body. It's a rush.
It lasted for about one in a half to two in a half minutes. All totalled twenty-five fired with sixteen landed. We have two to three casualties. Schuman and I sit after sending our battle and casualty reports and discuss the events. The past two hours blazed past.and the next five go as normal. I feel a deep sadness for those we could not fully protect and have given their lives this night for a cause they may or may not have agreed with. It's our job. Just like everyone else. If you value your job. You do what you boss says. To the best of your abilities. Don't hate us or our jobs. Just like your friend at work you might eat out with. We are just like them. No matter who we are or what we wear to work or where we work. We are all human. We are all American. Fellow Americans. Say a prayer for us. Say a prayer for the Fallen.
My husband wrote this for his myspace and he is in iraq now myself and our 4 girls miss him dearly.Thank you for writing a great song we appreciate it
This song is the best that I have heard and I love the video It hits me in the heart. you have to keep up the great job and help keep the people backing our troops thank you very much it means alot to all of us
