Review # 39: Alaska and Me, "In Your Sh...

starts out very energetic, straight off with vocals and an up-stoked guitar line that luckily avoids sounding ska.  The break into the chorus with the addition of female back-up vocals and fully strummed chords is very powerful and plays off the tempo change to give it the punch to hook people 's ears and lead them down the melody.

There's an interesting bridge that I wasn't expecting that plays on the before mentioned ska guitar, except the rest of the band covers it very well by not taking the easy-way-out in writing and following the guitar; it’s a controlled disjunction that is pleasant and interesting.

This is a great band.  The song is very poppy, but it has enough interesting elements to be unique and appeal to those less inclined to like pop-punk or mainstream-emo...Alaska and Me walks on the awesome side of a thin line between run-of-the-mill indie band and mainstream pop-rock, making something new while still being accessible.  It’s hard to write a good pop song, but Alaska and Me did it with “In Your Shoes”

I really enjoy this track and wish them success in the Quarter Finals.
