  • to tell a tale through songs 11/12/2007 11:33 AM

while almost all songs should be capable of standing on its own, certain times, a more detailed and fulfilling portrait can come from creating a holistic story through many songs on the same album.

when i put together my first album, a lake under the stars, it was a concept album surrounding the different stages of a couple's relationship. each song has its own ideas and moods, but as a whole, it's easier to see the many layers a relationship goes through from idealistic beginning, mutual separation, unfinished business, reconciliation, to disappointing end. note that as a concept, this isn't meant to represent all relationships, but one in particular.

i've uploaded all ten tracks here, and they are as follows:
    - one
    - can't get enough
    - tonight
    - always be here
    - free to be (come with me)
    - as you want me
    - just say goodbye
    - easy to love
    - once in a lifetime
    - we can deal with this

i'll probably leave them up for a day or two, so if you get the chance, please listen to them and see if you can whittle out all the different phases.

all songs for the album were written by me and produced by ron zabrocki.

have a great week 8 and good luck to everyone on the last week before quarterfinals!

    best,

  • Top 50 for Week 5... bang on! Thanks to all! 10/29/2007 06:08 AM

When I received an email from snocap about this SPIN hot pursuit contest about three weeks ago, I joined as a way to get my music out there and thought that if any of it fell into the right ears, more power to it. I didn't really have any delusion that I would win this thing, but thought it would be a fun way to hear more music and have my music be heard. From the email, I got the impression that the contest was open for all genres and artists; it seems through the label geeks' choices and through further investigation, that this is not the case, but that rock is the primary focus. I can say quite honestly that I am in no ways a rock band nor a rock artist, but am unashamedly pop. That's why I am pleasantly shocked and psyched that I was even able to make it into the top 50 for week 5. This does, however, bring up the dilemma of whether I should be there. I am incredibly grateful to everyone that voted for me and have enjoyed interacting with all the bands on here through the whole process.

Through the few weeks I've been in this contest, I've gotten some very insightful comments from other artists about my music, and I appreciate every person that took the time to listen and give me feedback. After all, my main purpose in joining this contest was to get my music out there. At the same time, I've had the opportunity to listen to some amazing music from a whole bunch of different genres, and I am thankful to musicnation and this contest for exposing me to so much talent.

To everyone that has been putting in votes for me, thanks a lot and know that I truly appreciate the support. Please don't feel obligated to vote for me though, even if I vote for you, as I'm not really what the contest is looking for anyhow. If you do want to though, at least that might keep me high enough that someone might listen, so I won't complain!

Best of luck to everyone in this new voting week and in your musical careers!
