Innovative 3 piece band from long ago ( 1986 to 1992 ) who many feel started the real grunge revolution ....and they're not from Seattle ; THEY'RE FROM LOS ANGELES CALIF. ( REDONDO BEACH / TORRANCE )......LED BY the very original sounding Guitarist Phil Keegan and hard pounding drummer later turned lead guitarist Clark Haggins. In 1988, G.e. cut their 8 song demo at South Bay Sound Studio ( now called Media kitchen ) and it was so good that they turned it into a full fledged album where it scored many great reviews in magazines like Flipside for its originality and killer guitar from Keegan. As time would go on, G.e. would send their material of songs, photos, and concert video and bios to the 'Major' labels ...not just the underground ones like SST.......G.e. had big BIG PLANS in part because their sound was so big and so unique. In 1990, G.e. cut "Immorally Moral' a killer 3 song ep and G.e. would play big shows around the South Bay...among them the four big shows at Wilson Park in Torrance....and G.e. would build a reputation as being a great live band that defied it's studio sound......but then things would change..... After more than a few nasty disputes, G.e. would be shaken by the departure of Keegan in 1990....and things suddenly did not look so bright for the concept that was G.e. but then Clark ( the Shark) Haggins would offer himself to take over as guitarist and in no time at all, G.e. had reassembled their three piece with a new drummer named Greg Tarpley and the new 3 piece G.e. was born !!! The February 1991 album was a big big change in direction for G.e. and it produced some of their greatest songs as penned by Haggins. A track called Ben is Dead plus the imperious "Star' would emerge from the 'legit' release and the stark changes would re-announce G.e. as one of THE South Bay bands to be dealt with....G.e dressed in plain attire onstage almost as if they just came from working under a car and it was this suburban attitude and 'punk rock' vibe that made G.e. a strange customer right in the middle of the Sunset Strip era of Los Angeles's 'glam metal scene'...G.e. played with loud forceful energy yet they were no metal band indeed as their clothing exhibited and G.e. would have more than a few interactions with magazines and labels and lawyers galore !!! The little idea for the grungey G.e. seemed very intrigueing to many........G.e. never got signed...not even with all the great shows, albums, youth, and innovation....Clark Hagins was and still is a headstrong individual who does things HIS WAY........Its highly doubtful that a dubious record label could have put pop window dressing upon G.e. to satisfy Haggins who probobly already knew what he was doing anyway with killer videos and great songs from albums like 'legit' and 1992's 'Agenda' which featured G.e's only indie radio hit 'White Black thang' and the powerful 'Manipulation', 'No takers', and 'Search and Destroy"....G.e. would go on to do one final album in 1992; 'BIG TEEN DOLLAR$' which featured another solid hit called "Brandy".....but the tired little G.e. would call it quits after bassist Rick Carmody left the band to join the South Bay punk rock band 'The One handed Readers'....two retrospective cds would follow in the post G.e. years of 1994 and 1995; the Fountain 'Weird' cd and the Greenhouse Effect Rock Opera "White Suburban Liar$"....a rumored 'reunion' gig here n there almost happened but never did....and since the days of 1995 and 96, Clark Haggins has been a swimming pool cleaner...re-discovering G.e. for himself in the new internet ages of 2004 and 2005...where he began to asseble a plathera of many G.e. websites and reaquainting with former G.e. manager from the East coast Jeff Snow.....the future is wide open for g.e. again now as they live again on the cyberspace of the net.
