I come here, I open somebody's page, and take a quick glance at the comments: "You are amazing as always,"... "I love this song, it's one of my favorite,"etc.
I listen to the song and I wonder if this is what people really like. But, then I move onto other songs, ranging anywhere from very bad to very good, and I read the same comments everywhere.
So, I start to wonder why people do this. They can't be deaf - and they definitely can't be THAT humble! Maybe the line between love and hate is thin, but there's a whole mountain between kindness and hypocrisy. As a matter of fact, I've learned to predict what the song will be like by just reading the comments: if they say "Good control of voice," it means bad intonation; if they say "Very original," it means the song is everything BUT original.
I admit, I am softer in my comments than in my thoughts, but that's because I don't feel I am entitled to criticize these vulnerable artists harshly and ruin their day. I try to post constructive advice. If I said I liked your voice, but didn't comment on your song, it means I wasn't impressed by the song - but who am I to impose my intimate taste on your work? I do comment aloud the things that I believe are a matter of objective judgment.
So, I figure, people do this for the votes. But since everybody does it, it doesn't have any weight anymore. Are those few votes really that important? Do you really want to win because of reasons other than the quality of your music
Thomas Fuller said, "He does not believe who does not live according to his belief." Do you believe in yourself? Then be yourself!
Good luck everyone in all your (noble) endeavors!
