Jamie Davis met Dan Isbell at Northeast Mississippi Community College while both were attending on country music scholarships and performing in the on-campus band Campus Country. When Davis and Isbell transferred to Mississippi State University, they began playing in local bars to help pay their living expenses while attending college.
Davis and Isbell, along with former lead guitarist Dustin Childers, played as Soul Gravy with a rotating lineup that eventually solidified in 2007 with the addition of experienced musicians Jerry Carnathan (lead guitar), John Staggers (drums), and Mitch Shurden (bass). It is the various musical influences of these five men that blended into the eclectic, soul-tinged country sound that Soul Gravy fondly refers to as "funktry."
Also, the trio of Davis, Isbell, and Carnathan has quickly melded into a powerful and prolific songwriting team, turning out quality material on a consistent basis which has already garnered interest from industry insiders.
The members of Soul Gravy have collectively shared the stage with artists such as the Bellamy Brothers, Confederate Railroad, Darryl Worley, Steve Azar, One Republic, The Gin Blossoms, Fabolous, Shop Boyz, Saving Abel, and other nationally recognized acts.
Soul Gravy's debut CD "Mississippi Moonshine" is scheduled for independent release on September 26, 2008.

Cloak and Jagger joke on a folk for hire...Genre bending splendor, engender the choir...
Richochet ballet for a matinee...
Don't mount your poultry before they lay...
Strange, to reach into the beyond...
And pull out unknowing, like a glowing wand...
Where I wave it, words may sprout...
Tis true, I've no clue, what I'm strewing about...
See yourself...
