For we all know, some things in life seem pre-destined. While some things really are. For up and coming artist, Jor'el Jebre, "everything isn’t at all what it may seem”. And at this particular stage in his life there isn’t a phrase more fitting. It was in 2006 when this inspiring songwriter/musician put his education on hold and moved out of his house onto a homeboy’s couch to pursue a career as a record producer. A producer...the most difficult, yet most beneficial job in the industry. So it’s a rarity when a notable producer like 9th Wonder gives an up and coming counterpart such high praise. Well, this is what happened when 9th and Jor’el Jebre encountered each other for the first time at the 2007 Hip-Hop Summit at North Carolina Central University. After the first battle, 9th Wonder gave the following critique, “if your beat is hot, act like it,” signaling that this Florida native needed to show more emotion. However, living by the motto of “let your craft speak for itself instead of speaking for it,” Jor’el has chosen to adopt a calm demeanor when playing music for others. Though, after many more failed attempts to collaborate with artists and engineers as a producer, this young man took it upon himself, and finally chose to pick up the mic. As of July 2007, Jor’el Jebre would come to be known as a performing artist. Putting together his first project as an artist (a mixtape conveniently titled “Good Morning America”) in his first 4 months of emceeing, you can see Jor’el dove into this overdue-profession-change unhesitatingly. In fact, immediately following completion, the self-proclaimed “Heart of Florida” packed what little he had and moved to Atlanta where he would spend the next five months performing (100-plus times) and networking non-stop at clubs like Club Crucial, The Royal Peacock, The Apachee Club, and Jangles to name a few. In his first independently-released single “I See a Diva”, Jebre uses subtle yet powerful percussion on top of heavy laced piano loops combined with live strings and key strums. A prolific songwriter, with a peculiar style, who has been playing the drums since the age of seven and the keys since thirteen, the versatility in his production comes as no surprise. A devout fan of not only music in general but the communication medium it serves as in a world ever so evolving, Jor’el Jebre chose music as his gateway, or shall we say music chose him. Nowadays, Jor’el is back and forth between Atlanta, Los Angeles, Oakland, New York, and Florida servicing tracks, concepts, hooks, and songs to other artists as well as beginning his personal journey of dominance as an artist/producer/songwriter in the industry; a journey and campaign titled “Good Morning America”. In 2008, look out for him and his cult, “The EK’ZILES,” as they tell the world why THEY DON’T SLEEP!
