In the name of the MOST HIGH. In the words of Kanye West, “the music is good, it’s different and dude is a hustler.” According to Common, “a lyricist is what is important to me, that’s what will make Kumasi stand out from other west coast contemporary artist.” As said by Carl Thomas, “Kumasi is a humble intelligent talent and the music speaks for itself." Born in 1978, native to Compton California, KUMASI is no stranger to the struggles of life in the inner city. His music is directly influenced by the trails of all oppressed people past and present. As an artist, KUMASI has determined his purpose to be a vocalist that brings light to the listener in attempt to heal blackened souls. By the example of GOD graced men from Roberto Clemente to the Messiah, Christ Jesus, Kumasi describes it to be his duty to use success in music to breed Humanitarian works. "A day that goes by and you were not able to help someone is a day wasted," says KUMASI. This first prize winner of the prestigious Temecula Film and Music Festival can be heard on “Thug Angel” Sound Track, a documentary about the late Tupac Shakur as well as “Sounds of Spirit,” along with peers such as Common and Andre 3000. Raised by his Mother and mentored by his Father, Kumasi survived the toils and turmoil of the infamous streets of Compton, California to graduate from San Diego State and became a middle school teacher. Already gifted lyrically his experience with youth and their exposure to the material driven and sexual topics of popular music inspired Kumasi’s intention to be the alternative for popular culture. With his soothing voice and pleasant yet sincere appearance, Kumasi, has a distinct way of blending his thoughts of love for GOD, women and social rehabilitation to make music that is appealing to the masses. “My goal is to change the complexion of the industry by taking hip-hop culture back to its roots of good times, love and meaning,” Kumasi states. Kumasi’s most recent project, “Change Gone Come” features industry heavy weights Dave Hollister and Mos Def on the title track, “Change Gone Come.” An array of up and coming artist such as Butterphly, Tren’l, J Paddio, and Atlantic Recording song-stress Hope are also featured. Production of the project consists of tried and proven producers such as Tony “Touch” Isaacs, Keith Crouch and Eric Rico.
