Alex Rush was born on July 13, 1988 in Queens, NY. Like the late great Biggie Smalls, she too was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (peep the “Respect” joint off “Ready to Die” for the reference). But baby Lex endured and made it through. As early as two years old, Alex was showing interest in hip hop. She was bumping MC Hammer’s “Can’t Touch This” out of her Tyco cassette player. Around age 13, she began playing around with rhymes about her friends. Eventually, Lex started to take the art of the MC seriously and has been a hip hop head ever since. She truly feigns for the music. She began performing in showcases and open mics at clubs around New York City, such as the Pyramid Club and the Remote Lounge, when she was 16 and continues to do so today. Lex Rush is currently a student at the University of Maryland and participates in talent showcases there, including the famed Juke Joints. She is also a member of the Undergrounduates, a hip hop student group, and Terppoets.
Lex prides herself on her lyricism, expressive flow and lively performances. She spits her lyrics with emotion, as if she is an actress reciting lines. Many of her content is political, for Lex is an avid reader of Noam Chomsky. However, she also appreciates fun and witty hip hop; her musical content reflects that as well. The most important thing to Lex as an artist is that she remains true to herself and represents who she is in every day life.
