From the celebratory breakbeats of his 2001 debut Anime Sweetheart to his dark and aggressive hard rock follow up, 2003's Severed to a thousand shades in between. He genre jumps at will to reflect whatever emotions he is wearing on his sleeve and crafts clever outlets for each body of musical expressiveness. Whether it be music he writes for his independent releases which are featured prominently in over fifty television and media placements such as HBO's The Sopranos, CBS's Navy NCIS, The WB's Charmed, ABC's One Life To Live, CBS Sports, OLN's The Gravity Games, The Howard Stern Show and online Abercrombie & Fitch promos, to music written for games like the Dungeons & Dragons® Online: Stormreach, to TV and film scores, [munk] finds a way to funnel and focus his versatility. Bold musical explorations aside, [munk]s appeal is that of the every man, his story ringing with Rocky-esque comebacks. In 1999, his band super-G was wrapped in a long, heady label negotiation that lead to the demise of the project (songs [munk] wrote for super-G won the ASCAP Popular Songwriting Award in 1999 and 2000). From those ashes, [munk] conceived his first solo CD Anime Sweetheart as a farewell to fans and the disc blew up. Anime was critically lauded by both underground and legitimate press like The Boston Globe, who called [munk] the next superstar and earned Top 30 airplay on over 100 college stations throughout the country, [munk] was quickly propelled from saying goodbye to super-Gs small fan base to invites by major market radio stations to play along side signed nationals in events like The 2002 WFNX/Phoenix Best Music Poll and an invitation to The 2002 WBCN Rumble. Anime was a reinvention and a new, unexpected start. In June 2003, [munk] was involved in a near-fatal car accident, hit head on by a drunk driver - just a month before his sophmore follow-up "Severed" was to be released. The resulting injuries, including two broken legs, five subsequent surgeries and the near loss of his right foot, landed [munk] in a wheelchair. It was unclear if he would ever actually perform again or if Severed would ever see the light of day. The injuries cost him months of show dates, including an opportunity to perform on The Jamie Kennedy Experiment on The WB. Enduring months of rigorous physical therapy, [munk] remained determined to release, tour and promote Severed but feared the momentum had dissipated from Anime. [munk]s fears were assuaged with another comeback in September, performing at The Hard Rock Café in Boston for the 2003 NEMO Music Conference. The emotional performance of the new material resonated and began the ball rolling again. Severed was finally released in October 2003, earning [munk] recognition from both fans and industry. The songs "If I" and "You Will Know (written as a note to his son, Trey) from Severed received honors in the 11th Annual Billboard World Song Contest, noted as "demonstrations of the talent and dedication it takes to write a hit song" by Billboard Contest Director David Kindred. Scarification [Hurt Me More] was voted by listeners as the featured Buzzcut on 104.1 WBCN two weeks in a row. [munk]s live interview and spin of If I on 107.3 WAAFs Baystate Rock had the stations phone lines lit until well after the shows end. Boston area press responded quickly with a cover feature in the November 03 issue of The Noise and The Weekly Dig calling Severed - Rock at its finest. "[munk] has so much character", says Boston rock journalist Lexi Khan. "He faces harsh circumstances with superior strength and doesn't crow about his accomplishments, which gives him grace". Currently, [munk] continues to "genre dance" for television. His music placements are now featured globally in countries such as Japan, Hong Kong, Britain, The Netherlands, Germany and Australia, to name a few. In late 2005, [munk]'s song "Podpeople" was adopted by podcasting nation, and was inaugurated by The Podfather himself, Adam Curry on his Daily Source Code podcast as the new anthem for the podcasting revolution. Originally broken by the podcast Pacific Coast Hellway, over 400 podcasts worldwide have followed suit in 2006, making [munk] a bona fide hit in "Pod Nation".
