NORAH JONES WAKES UP, ROCKS OUT
This is not your mother's Norah Jones.
Yes, that's the sleepy-voiced chanteuse and mega-selling recording artist in the blond wig on the right. Or her alias anyway: Maddie, singer-guitarist-rocker in new "secret" band El Madmo. The trio just signed to Conor Oberst's hip indie imprint TEAM LOVE, and a debut LP is set to drop May 20.
What to make of this? Apparently a certain adult contemporary pianist was getting ancy for distortion, feedback -- and street cred.
My Blueberry Nights aside, Jones has had a charmed career, and she seems completely normal and cool and unassuming in interviews. So we're reserving judgment and are hopeful that El Madmo isn't too cute for its own good.
Song titles are promising anyway.
