THEN AND NOW: RADIOHEAD ON CONAN O'BRIEN
Thu, Apr 24, 2008, 5:41 PMLast night, Radiohead performed "House Of Cards" exclusively for Late Night with Conan O'Brien. The Oxford fivesome appeared on the program via satellite, lest they lodge a rock-band sized carbon footprint in the ozone layer from jetting to NYC -- just for five minutes of TV.
Somewhere, Al Gore nods approvingly in a darkened study.
A solid, environmentally sound performance from a band that can, at this stage, basically do whatever the eff it wants.
But there was a time when Radiohead lacked that kind of pull, and had to, you know, actually show up in person for a little promo.
Let's travel back in time fifteen years, shall we? Trivia buffs take note: Here's Radiohead performing coulda-been one-hit-wonder "Creep" as Conan's very first musical guest.
What to compare and contrast first? Forget the evolution of Radiohead's sound. How about the evolution of Thom Yorke's hair!? Or the lack therof from Conan's coiffeure...

That's because he couldn't. No one would pay, they all wanted the download for free. Creep wasn't on the Free list though. I hear that Mark Holman guy from Holworks is putting the M back in music with that straightforward mean something Rock that is unique and compelling.http://musicnation.com/music/holworks/playlist/211041
