THIS DAY: BEATLES LET IT BE IN NYC
Tue, May 13, 2008, 04:47 PMOn May 13, 1970, The Beatles' swan song film "Let It Be" was unveiled in New York. Thirty-eight years later to the day, the revealing and still controversial documentary has yet to receive a proper DVD release.
Video and sound quality aside, "Let It Be" is worth finding and examining on VHS or a VHS-to-DVD transfer. You can see plainly the ties that once bound the Fab Four dissolving on camera.
Case in point is obviously this scene below, which features an awkward squabble between Paul and George, and two priceless cutaways to an utterly bemused and over-it Ringo. These two minutes basically sum up the entire film -- and the demise of The Beatles -- in microcosm.
"Look, I'll play whatever you want me to play. Or I won't play at all. Whatever it is that will please you, I'll do it."

The video does a sit and spin for me. My brother was exactly 12 years old when this happened. I was in the neighborhood of 10. It was a big deal because our older sister who was 20 at the time was so upset and we couldn't understand why. We did like their songs. She made sure of that.
