THIS DAY: JEFF BUCKLEY'S LAST GOODBYE

It's hard to believe it's been eleven years (to the day) since Jeff Buckley drowned in a river in Memphis. He was set to begin recording his much-anticipated follow-up to his debut disc, Grace, the next day, his band already en route by plane. According to the friend that was with him at the time, Buckley was singing Led Zepplin's "Whole Lotta Love" when he disappeared in the water, only to be found days later, gone at 30. His death was ruled accidental.

Demos for the planned album, some of them reworked posthumously, were released as "Sketches for my Sweetheart the Drunk," but by most accounts that double-disc pales in comparison of what Buckley had in mind for his second effort.

Many Jeff Buckley releases have followed since then, owing to his growing popularity since his death. A documentary titled Amazing Grace: Jeff Buckley alighted at several film festivals last year, though copywright issues have held up its DVD release.

An expanded "Legacy Edition" version of Grace was released in 2004. A great video, including rare footage of Buckley and his band on tour, was made for the previously unreleased song "Forget Her." Check it.
