THIS DAY: JOHNNY CASH AND BOB DYLAN BFF
Thu, May 01, 2008, 4:31 PMOn May 1 -- thirty-nine years ago -- Johnny Cash taped a TV special at The Grand Ole Opry that featured his BFF at the time, Bob Dylan.
These two were very fond of each other. On several early records, such as Orange Blossom Special, Cash would cover early Dylan hits like "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right." Meanwhile, Dylan enjoyed throwing Cash covers into his set, and in Eat The Document documentary, the pair can be seen dueting backstage on Cash's "I Still Miss Someone."
The 1969 special -- uber rare, and hard to find -- features the pair dueting on Dylan's "Girl From The North Country," among other songs.
Also notable from this appearance, however, is the jarring reminder of Dylan's late-60s and early-70s period of, well, let's just call it his "period of enunciation." And properly combed hair.
Dig this clip from the Cash TV special that features The Bard singing with an "authentic" country and western vocal style. You can pick out every word.
