THIS DAY: STEVE PERRY QUITS JOURNEY, AGA...
Wed, May 07, 2008, 08:22 PMTen years ago today, diminutive arena-rock crooner Steve Perry parted ways with Journey -- for the second time.
Perry originally stopped believing he could work with his bandmates in the mid-80s, but in the mid-90s he returned to the fold briefly to record and release Trial By Fire. That aptly titled LP would be a sign of things to come, as acrimonious band relations quickly cropped up again between Perry and guitarist Neal Schon. When Perry began suffering from back problems and contemplated hip replacement surgery -- which he would ultimately refuse to undergo -- his fellow journeymen took that as an excuse to replace him with another singer.
Since then, Schon & Co. have replaced Journey vocalists three more times. And still the band packs 'em in every summer.
In honor of this band's high turnover lineup (it's not just singers; even American Idol's Randy Jackson had a stint as the band's bassists -- google it) we dug up this little nugget from Journey's early 80s heyday.

Why is Neal Schon dressed like Stanley Spadowski from that Weird Al movie UHF?Holworks Music says
All the egos and all the King's Horses will not put Humpty Dumpty back together again. So they say that Mark Holman guy from Holworks can sing a pretty song too. Maybe we should just click on this Holworks link and go listen, . . .Just When I Thought.~ The Altruistic Messiah ~ a.k.a. ~ Ben Vandagriff says
Little Napoleon & the Ego-Trippers from hell !Steve came up from the L.A. Club scene to then joining Greg & Neil after Santana (w/ Greg singing a couple of his 1st hits ~ like Black Magic Woman ...) This band even fired Ainsley Dunbar ~ their original drummer ~ for being a drunk. But this vid shows they were still pretty awesome , indeed !!!!!
