TOM WAITS MAPS OUT SUMMER TOUR

Gravel-voiced carnival barker Tom Waits will return to the road this summer, playing his first live dates since 2006. The 17-stop "Glitter and Doom" tour will hit mostly southern U.S. cities during June and July.

Waits announced the tour yesterday at a "press conference" broadcast via his official website. The sham presser seemed legit at first -- until the camera pulled back to reveal that the "questions" were coming from a record player seated in the middle of rows and rows of empty chairs.

Do not expect any empty chairs, however, at any of these summer shows. All of Waits' rare gigs are guaranteed to sell out quick.

"Glitter and Doom" tour dates:

June 17-18: Phoenix, AZ (Orpheum)
June 20: El Paso, TX (Plaza Theatre)
June 22: Houston, TX (Jones Hall)
June 23: Dallas, TX (Palladium)
June 25: Tulsa, OK (Brady Theatre)
June 26: St. Louis, MO (Fox Theatre)
June 28: Columbus, OH (Ohio Theatre)
June 29: Knoxville, TN (Civic Theatre)
July 1: Jacksonville, FL (Moran Theatre)
July 2: Mobile, AL. (Saenger Theatre)
July 3: Birmingham, AL (Alabama Theatre)
July 5: Atlanta, GA (Fox Theatre)

Most of the Waits news of late has been tied to Scarlett Johansson's forthcoming disc of Waits covers. No word yet if she'll make any guest appearances.

I love Rain Dogs. What a great album. I just hope that Carolina Commons can be half as verbally colorful. Low gravely voices? Hmmmmm, I heard that Mark Holman guy from Holworks has a voice like that, . . .Just When I Thought - Imagine that.
