GAS STINKS!

We’re entering a state of fuel poverty, and it’s affecting everything from the food we eat, to the way we get to work, to shortened school weeks, and most importantly our culture and leisure activities. And sadly, getting to see your favorite band perform this summer is certainly in jeopardy. The sluggish economy is hitting the music scene in a big way. Bands aren’t touring and the ones that are, have been suffering from poor attendance. Bottom line: people just can’t afford the gas (in addition to all the other expenses) to go see them.
Soaring gas prices are making travel extremely unaffordable. The popular traveling music festival Warped Tour is even feeling the heat from the insane rise in gas prices. Many bands in the line-up have had to drop out of the tour, and the ones who are still on board, are barely staying afloat with their merch sales.
There’s less attendance to shows and festivals over all. The fans who are making the effort are spending less money on merch, which in turn causes bands to cut tour dates or just not tour at all because they don’t have enough cash to fill their gas tanks. It’s all a chain reaction. AT&T, a Warped Tour sponsor, recently began giving out a $500 gas card each day to different bands on the tour, as an incentive for them to remain on board.
It’s a sad state of affairs for bands and their fans, when the price of a tank of gas literally takes the show off the road.
