RUSSIA TO BAN EMO?
Thu, Jul 24, 2008, 09:31 PMEmo kids are taking to the streets in Russia in mass protests over proposed anti-emo laws. The legislation was presented last month at a hearing held by the State Durma, with members clamoring that "negative" emo culture encourages anti-social behavior and glorifies suicide.
So I guess all you Russian emos are going to have to comb your bangs back, trade in your plastic rimmed glasses for some wire frames, and stop wearing eyeliner.
It is beyond ridiculous to ban a whole genre of music. Emo’s roots are firmly planted in hardcore music – does this mean hardcore is the next genre to be forbidden?
All this comes in the wake of the Mexico’s emo bashing incidents just a few months ago. It seems as if emo kids are getting the short stick these days – and the way would be the first to tell you so. It’s all a far cry from what the genre once stood for when bands like Sunny Day Real Estate and Minor Threat first arrived on the scene.

Still, in a day and age where everything is a click away on the world wide interweb, it is hard to see how Russian authorities will stop emo fans from getting their fix.
If anything, the banning of emo music and culture will just make the emo kids well… more emo, and will lead to more of exactly what the legislation seeks to prevent.
