EDDIE VEDDER PLAYS DEEP ON SOLO TOUR
Tue, Aug 05, 2008, 09:47 PMPearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder is only a couple of dates into his solo tour, and early reviews are strong. Pearl Jam "completists" will be particularly enthused by the near-30-song set, as it includes many lesser-known deep album cuts from the Pearl Jam catalog (e.g., "Dead Man," "Drifting"). It also features little more than Vedder's voice and guitar.
In New York on Monday night, Vedder's opening act Liam (son of Crowded House's Neil) Finn also gets into the act, joining Vedder for a couple songs from the Into The Wild soundtrack.
There are also plenty of covers, with Vedder trying his hand (and voice) on James Taylor and Cat Stevens oddities, plus a bold read of a tune by outsider artist Daniel Johnston ("Walking the Cow").
Vedder has powerful arena-rock pipes, but this is a unique opportunity to hear him "sing" without all the bells and whistles. Hear are the remaining tour dates and cities for Vedder's solo run:
