THIS MAN'S WORK: THE RETURN OF MAXWELL

The smoothest R&B crooner to come along in many years hasn't been seen onstage for, well, years! Maxwell's last disc was 2001's Now, and since then, he has threatened to fall into the Where are they now category.

Not familiar? Youtube Maxwell's MTV unplugged clips. Ridic.

The rumors were thick that Maxwell was planning his return this year, and so it is. The singer will begin a tour -- his first since 2002 -- in Boston on Oct. 8, and play dates through Nov. 21 in Philadelphia.

No release date yet exists for the his long-anticipated three-album follow-up to Now, titled Black Summers' Night. But the set-in-stone tour dates suggest that the album(s) -- like Maxwell himself -- may see the light of day soon.

Here's one detail we do know about the LP: Do the words "Sade's backing band" mean anything to you?

Check Maxwell's busy Myspace page for updates and leaks.
