ANDRE 3000 NO OUTKAST
Not to be outdone by trusty bandmate Big Boi -- whose own Luscious Left Foot ... Son of Chico Dusty LP releases this fall -- Andre 3000 will drop his own solo concept album most likely by the end of the year.
Not that 3000 is necessarily competitive with Big Boi -- though 'Dre would certainly win any "best dressed" awards in the hip-hop world, let alone in OutKast. No, Big Boi and 3000 essentially already made two solo records: The Love Below and Speakerboxxx -- which together made for the top album of 2004, according to the Grammys.
These latest two albums, however, will no doubt be viewed as proper, non-OutKast releases. They both should make for fascinating listening -- but this development does beg an intriguing question: Can anyone really imagine a future OutKast album featuring real collaboration between these two?
Let's hope so. But it's going to take not just ego management, but some elaborate time management to boot. Andre is quickly building his other career: that of film actor. Check him out in this trailer for Battle in Seattle -- out this week in theaters.
