NO-ASIS: BAND NIXES GIG BUT PROMOTES LP
Thu, Sep 11, 2008, 08:24 PMBad news for Oasis fans in New York, particularly those that shelled out as much as $500 via craigslist for a ticket to the Brit band's September 12 club date at Terminal 5.
The group earlier today canceled the rare small-venue concert, designed to give diehards Oasis lovers an intimate preview of songs from their forthcoming LP, Dig Out Your Soul.
Last week at a gig in Toronto, guitarist Noel Gallagher was attacked (see YouTube evidence below) by a fan, and walked away with a bruised hip, ribs, and ego. Brother and singer Liam Gallagher had to be restrained from retaliating, Northern England-style.
Fans feared that the injuries would lead to a cancelation of the much-anticipated Terminal 5 show. It happened.
But all is not lost, as the group will still make a stop in Manhattan tomorrow anyway to take part in perhaps the coolest pre-album-release marketing scheme in recent memory.
The band will teach four songs from the new disc to a contingent of 30 street musicians form the Metropolitan Transportation Authorities "Music Under New York" initiative. Those players and performers will then spread out all over the city to play the new Oasis material in the subways and streets of New York.
Fans are encouraged to film the musicians, and post their footage to youtube.com/digoutyoursoulsongs.
Dig Out Your Soul drops stateside on Oct. 7. Noel should feel much better by then. And he and his brother can go back to fighting each other instead.
