Review #3 New Royalty – Find my way (Go Gettaz)OK, not the biggest fan of “gangsta” rap. I’m a huge fan of hip hop though, and this rides the line in my humble opinion. The beats are really stripped down and allow the vocals to shine through. For my tastes the verses skirt too far in to the rap side of things, but I like the sound of it overall. All the vocalists have smooth voices and very distinctive styles. The only thing I don’t like is the last verse. It is like the Pras verses on Fugees albums. They stick out like a sore thumb and get me thinking, “Which of these things is not like the other?” Where everything else seems really smooth and is delivered with a lot of soul, the last verse just sounds like someone trying to be “thug,” and not really being that convincing. The hook is pretty standard fare, with a syncopated R’n’B vocal pattern, and some backing vocals. It sounds good, but it really pretty standard fare. What impressed me is the piano line that runs through the whole song. It is catchy and simple, and this song could stand to have that replaced with live piano, as opposed to synthesized piano. It would really step up the sound a lot to have live instrumentation for the beats. Overall a very good track.
