Nexx Level could be best described as an American musical group, created in the mid 90’s, whose repertoire includes R&B, soul music, and Pop. The group consists of three lead African-American singers from the south side of Chicago: Tommie “Mixx” Brooks, Gene “Swift” Anthony, and Robb “Ase” Mitchell. The group’s name comes from their ability to constantly take music to the Next Level every time! Coming from a Pentecostal background, Nexx Level originally performed and recorded independently released gospel albums during the late-1990s, and eventually became an R&B sensation. The group met in the studio and were linked together a year later by their soon to be manager Yancy Watkins. Since then Nexx Level has traveled across the globe performing for some of the biggest names in music. Many are captivated by the group’s ability to capture the heart and soul, and also control the emotions of their listeners. Most of the elements that were eventually combined to form what became known as the “Nexx Level Style” originated with the work of Tommie B. (NXL member). Yancy Watkins (Business Partner) was in charge of developing Nexx Level into a successful act, and also had a major role in defining their style and sound. Nexx Level also known as the new “Bad Boys of R&B” is noted for being influenced by a number of artists/groups before and after their creation, particularly Jodeci and R. Kelly. In addition, Nexx Level also followed such performers as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Kirk Franklin, John P.
