Monkeys Fly by Mark Alan Dooley with SIT-JO track

Description:
I want to thank Mark for offering this track to me as a collaboration. If you don't know him, he is a wonderful musician and a very interesting person who has done and continues to do many great things and you should go look into his pages and listen to his music, you'll be happy you did.~~~The Sit-jo is an instrument I put together from old banjo parts I found in a music store I worked in a while back, and features a bridge from the drone strings of a Sitar. With only one playing string and two drones, it's a pretty limited instrument, really just a novelty, but I think it sounds cool and am very happy that I could use it on this song. It isn't very stable in the tuning department because it uses friction tuners and the neck is kind of loose, but it held together pretty well for this, and I hope you dig it....When does a banjo sound like a sitar? When Monkeys Fly!

nice job fellas! this reminds me of just how much music is just one big giant circle leading back to the same point of origin. it got me thinking about the influence of music from the long ago Morgendland (Morningland, land of the rising sun, the Orient) on the court music of medieval western Europe. with this piece, elements of american music are intertwined to yet stretch that circle further, a long path home, just like has done to us...carried us futher from our brothers and sisters throughout the world.beautiful. and no, i'm not on drugs! lol ok, so maybe a little!!! lol great work gents!

This song sounds great. It's got a great melody, and your instrument really shines through. It doesn't sound too limited.Daryan says
i know that you mentioned that the sit-jo is limited in what it can do, but you can never tell that by hearing this. the two of you, robert and mark, blend together so well in this track. there are so many layers here to dissect, even in it's "simplicity".Bravo says

Nice blend of Celtic and bluegrass sounds. Very unique tone on that Sit-jo thing and you sure can play it, no denying!!! The acoustic has a nice rich warms sound as well. Thanks for the invite.

Hello Gentlemen~I'm listening and liking what I hear. I think you two are on to something here. I'm getting so many different vibes from this song. I was just recently in the audience for the Plant/Krauss show at the Greek, and man, this song is making my pulse from that evening jump again. I can definitely hear a Plant style vocal going through this but then again I hear a bit of the progressive sounds that drove Denny Laine, Mike Pinder and the Moody Blues. Who knows, the Sit-jo may do for you what the Mellotron did for all those wonderful progressive rock bands from the 70's. Bring it back gents~ Bring back the album rock~
