  • JIMI HENDRIX 02/11/08 8:00am

I just wanted to express the pleasure I get from seeing HENDRIX listed SO many times as an influence on so many pages out here, and especially from the young people. In a world with seemingly little taste for ART, this is a SIGN that things are changing, in my eyes at least.

It has inspired me to dig out old tapes of music performed at anonymous clubs from my past and in doing so, I found a version of Red House performed in the early 90's when I was jammin' with Michelle and Book Of Runes in Denver for a while during that period. Michelle can sing her ass off, and while it didn't last too long in this configuration, I am, as ALWAYS, SO happy that things got recorded.

A small bit of advice for everyone: RECORD EVERYTHING, OR AS MUCH AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN!

Jimi's music is timeless and will be around forever, for he was an artist concerned with the state of humans being, and never lost his curiosity about our origins or his hope for a future of peace and love. He traveled the outskirts of infinity and brought back some of the clearest visions of it anyone will ever experience.

    Thank you Jimi, RRT

  • WINDOWPANE----Two Hits!! 02/06/08 10:20am

In the late eighties in Denver, me and fellow guitarist Tim Edwards put a group together called WINDOWPANE, a "Fusion" band, but a bit more on the Rock side. In our seven years together, we released 3 albums, were voted "Best Band in Denver" in Westword Mag, enjoyed very favorable reviews for our recordings and performances, and were part of an incredible scene that was happening in Denver at the time. All of us, and many musicians in Denver then, played in 3 or 4 bands, from Jazz to Punk, Rap to  Metal.  Many nights would feature several bands, and the diversity of music you would hear on any given night was amazing. I was lucky I ended up there somehow and got to be a part of it.

I put up 2 of our tunes, Not Jamaican (c1990), a reggae influenced improv (featuring my at the time new guitar synth) and Hanford WA, 1947 (c1993), a piece meant to sonically represent molecular/atomic meltdown. If you listen to HW, 1947, PLEASE USE CAUTION! It's noise to some, but music to us!

By the way, if there is a band out here called Windowpane and you don't want me to use the name, as was requested several years ago, let me know and we'll talk...

Thanks as always to all the fine musicians out here, RRT

  • JAZZ ISN'T QUITE DEAD, YET 01/30/08 9:06am

Just wanted to let everyone know that I recently added some Jazz tunes to my page. I know it's a niche thing and some can be kinda boring (I know, I'm a Rocker too), but this may be a bit different than you may think.

The word Jazz can mean many different things, so I have up:

A high energy hard core fusion tune - Cold Fusion(Chocolate Milk), recently, by the way, reviewed in Guitar Player Mag, on my 2nd blog,

A spacy dreamy ballad - (Ode To Trane),

A purely improvised sort of experimental guitar and vibraphone duet - (The Other Side),

And a straight up walking-bass-line style thing - (What If...).

All are performed by the GVQ, Rick Weingarten - vibes, Bruce Crisman - drums, Tom S. - bass, and me on guitar.

All these were recorded live on a shoe string budget by people who are used to playing live. All under rushed conditions, in one day and on the first take, except Cold Fusion, which was the second take. Serious thanks to Dave Stratten at Code 6 Studios in the Denver area for capturing it so well, and to Mike Pappas at KUVO Radio 89.3, Denver for the same.

If you listen to anything ELSE on my page (please do), and aren't digging what you hear, go to the next tune and it will be an almost completely different bag.

Thanks very much to those that have already been by, and to those who will. I'm trying to hear eventually ALL of you, but am still on dial-up, so in the time it takes to hear one song, I should have heard about FIVE, and what I've heard so far has been so great that I'm looking forward to cable internet, but I just got this (my first) computer 2 or 3 months ago, so I'm WAY BEHIND...

If you feel it, let me know, RRT
