Info

From Marfa, Texas, the Satanic Punk International Conspiracy (or SPIC as they are lovingly called) has screamed, clawed and spit its way to the top of the burgeoning Marfa music scene the band's members (those would be: Davidaaa Garcia on vocals and guitar, his brother J.D. Garcia on bass guitar and Ryan "Pinsky Fireballs" Penland on drums) helped create and have become figureheads for the nascent punk community quickly gaining in ranks in the little art mecca. Having grown up in Marfa, art practically in the water, their performances have caused quite a stir in the art community. Their reckless abandon and nihilistic attitude that has drawn such recognizable art world names as Wilhelm Sasnal and Jesus Palomino into SPIC's fanbase leave impressions on the young and old alike. In fact, Sasnal was so impressed by SPIC's performance that he flew the band to Warsaw, Poland to play his art opening. Many younger local bands now cite SPIC as an influence, both musical and cultural. Among SPIC's fans are also the old-school punk rockers, the ones who long for the days of Dead Kennedys' and Black Flag's chaotic shows and Sex Pistols' nihilstic stage banter and pissed off performances. These comparisons are not merely imagined: SPIC gigs are constantly frequented by such old shool punk rockers, from a local business owner who booked shows for Minor Threat on the East Coast to the guy who hung out with Dead Kennedys on the West Coast to many more who have passed through and caught a performance. One road manager for a famous band thought about introducing SPIC to popular hipster magazine after catching a three-song SPIC show one night and became immediately impressed. It ended up not happening. Who gives a fuck? Not they. As Big Bend Sentinel reporter Sterry Butcher stated in a review of one of the band's shows: "SPIC has great snarl and style, as all good punk bands should...Urgent and fast, reckless and taunting and sometimes darkly funny. This is punk rock and it's for real."

Snotty, primitive punk--a genre dear to my heart. You guys have the chops (such as they are) and the energy. Vocally it's a little inconsistent. Your singer appears to get winded by the end of It's Cold Out. This is certainly not cookie cutter, but is this the kind of stuff that'll win this competition, who knows? Good luck.

    Congrats to "Rantings of Eva"!!!

I also wanna say congrats to everyone in this comp for getting heard and getting the recognition that you all deserve. I know I at times displayed my emotions in ways that was not cool. But it's all in the growing up department, and we all evolved from this.

Just keep keeping it real, and we will once again (soon I hope), be side by side in our quest for success and being HEARD!

Here's another idea for being heard!

There's a new page on MN called "Collaboration Nation" for the listing of music that are collabs between 2 or more artists on MN.
It's not just there you can be heard, but if you collaborate with other artists in other genres, then your limitations to which contests you can enter just opened up to an endless selection. Use whatever you can to BE HEARD!!!!!

    YEAH, IT´S OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
IS THERE LIFE AFTER CONTEST? :) LOL

NOT SURE IF I MADE THE TOP 20 OR NOT? I WAS #15 SHORTLY BEFORE THE END, AND HAD TO GO DO SOME SHOPPING, AND WHEN I GOT BACK IT WAS OVER!!!! :) THINGS MOVE QUICKLY HERE, SO NO ONE CAN BE SURE OF ANYTHING.
YOU COULD BE #1 ONE MINUTE AND #250 THE NEXT!!!!!!
I SAW IT HAPPEN TO SEVERAL PEOPLE!!!!! PEOPLE TEND TO GET JEALOUS, AND JUST VOTE YOU DOWN.
THAT HAPPENS IN EVERY CONTEST, BUT IT WAS REALLY EXTREME IN THIS ONE!!!!
I MADE IT TO #3 AT ONE POINT, AND IT WAS ONLY FROM PEOPLE I KNOW ON THE SITE, BECAUSE I NEVER ASKED ANYONE TO VOTE FOR ME OUTSIDE OF THIS SITE!!!! :) I ALSO ALWAYS SAID, "VOTE IF YOU LIKE THE SONG". I WON´T VOTE FOR SONGS I DON´T LIKE, AND DON´T EXPECT MY FRIENDS TO EITHER. :)

ANYWAY, MAYBE I MADE THE TOP 20?! BUT IF YOU´RE NOT A YOUNG ROCK BAND, (WHICH THEY SPECIFICALLY STATED THEY WERE LOOKING FOR IN THE SPIN VIDEO) YOUR CHANCES ARE NULL!!!

I´M ALSO #3 IN LATIN AT OURSTAGE.COM WITH MY SONG "DO YOU WANT MY LOVIN". I´VE BEEN #3 FOR OVER A WEEK, SO I IMAGINE I´LL PROBABLY MAKE THE QUARTER FINALS, SEMI FINALS, AND WILL ONCE AGAIN LACK THE VOTES TO GET IN AND WIN THE FINALS, UNLESS MY 100´S OF FRIENDS HERE AT MUSIC NATION COME OVER AND VOTE FOR ME!!! :) THAT WOULD BE COOL, BECAUSE I´VE BEEN IN THE TOP 10 SEMI FINALS 5 OUT OF 6 CONTESTS IN 4 DIFFERENT GENRES. IT WOULD BE COOL TO FINALLY WIN. :)

BY THE WAY, THERE´S SOME INCREDIBLE TALENT ON THIS SITE!!!!!! A LOT OF YOUNG TALENT!!!! ONE OF THESE ARTISTS SHOULD WIN, BECAUSE SPIN IS LOOKING FOR THE NEXT BIG ROCK BAND!!!! :)

AT LEAST I KNOW MY SONGS ARE GOOD, AND WHICH WERE THE STRONGEST IN THE CONTEST!!!!!!
SINCE WE WERE ABLE TO CHANGE OUR SONGS DURING THE ENTIRE CONTEST, I DID SOME EXPERIMENTING!!! :)

    THESE ARE THE SONGS THAT DID THE BEST;

1."LOVE IS THE KEY" IS A WINNER!!!
2."YOU DID IT TO ME" DID EXTREMELY WELL!!!!
    3."DON´T STOP" DID GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
4."DO YOU WANT MY LOVIN" DID VERY WELL!!!
5."IN THE NAME OF" DID VERY WELL!!!!!!!

I TRIED OTHERS, BUT IT WAS PRIMARILY A ROCK CONTEST, SO JAZZ, FUNK, ELECTRONIC, GENERALLY DIDN´T DO THAT WELL FOR ANY LENGTHY PERIOD OF TIME!!!!!!
THIS WILL VARY ON DIFFERENT SITES AND IN DIFFERENT CONTESTS, BUT IT WAS AN INTERESTING EXPERIMENT, AND THE 5 SONGS ABOVE ALL DID EXTREMELY WELL!!!!!!! :D

AS I SAID BEFORE, NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT MY FRIENDS AND FANS HERE.
I´M VERY GREATFUL TO ALL OF YOU. :)
I´VE HEARD SO MUCH GREAT MUSIC, MET SO MANY WONDER FUL PEOPLE, AND HAD SOME GREAT LAUGHS HERE IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS, IT´S LIKE FAMILY FOR ME. SO I´LL BE AROUND HERE IN THE FUTURE. MAYBE NOT EVERYDAY, BUT A FEW TIMES A WEEK FOR SURE.

THANKS FOR YOUR FRIENDSHIP AND SUPPORT, I REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

    ALL OF YOU ARE WINNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

    HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND.

Today's Spotlight / salute, brought to you by LSD: (PLEASE READ ALL OF IT. IT'S ABOUT YOU)

Wow. I just woke up from only about a couple hours of sleep, and I don't mainline speed anymore, so please excuse my lame wording. Okay, first off I wanna say that you all know that since we are in the dark at the moment, that I 100% share your feelings in multiple "genres", if you will.

Be strong, and know that although this was an absolute grueling competition, and that most of us worked very hard, that our work HAS NOT BEEN IN VAIN. We have all been heard by more people in far away places, that we could have ever hoped for. PLUS (big plus) obviously THIS WILL NOT BE THE LAST COMPETITION here at MN. Lots, lots, LOTS more to come. We also learned soooo much about ourselves and eachother. The collaboration potential is amazing as well. All in all...............FREE PROMO BABY!!!

Ahhhhhhhh, but now comes the absolute most important part of this comment. You ready? Here it comes.....................

LSD's spotlight salutes (A very VERY special one):

If you notice below, there are no links, nor are there names. If you also will notice, you as well as I, in an unselfish quest to explore new artists, probably haven't heard your own music in a while. Or not in depth anyway. In this, it is very EASY to forget what you think about YOURSELF, how you feel about your music, and how great you are, along with your absolute endless potential. Especially after hearing some of there fucking geniuses here at MN. So, the music I want you to focus on today, and the music I am saluting is very simple, and you won't have to go far to hear it either.

Put on headphones, and as loud as you can, listen to yourselves! This is the music that I mostly recommend for you to hear! It is also the music that I can guarantee you'll find to be just what you're looking for. Feel it just like the day you wrote it. The emotions of love, anger, joy, dedication, the person you wrote it for or about, etc, etc, etc....... as the magic of these songs are the ENDLESSNESS of them.

That's my word for today. Thank you for EVERYTHING ladies and gents. The "Nation" loves you!!!
