Info

Formerly known as the squirrelmasters, Sweet Assault is from Northwest Ohio, and consists of husband and wife team Don and Kari up front on guitars and vocals, with her cousin Kirk on the drums and his friend Gabe on bass. Don and Kari met in late 2002 in the midst of a mass-jam of local musicians, and by the middle of 2003 they were dating and writing songs together. They married in July of 2004, and in the following February they found a newly guitar-player-turned-drummer and bassist to form the squirrelmasters. Don and Kari wrote a slew of songs, intermixed with a few written by the drummer (also a guitar player) and the bassist, and before they knew it, they had enough material to do a 3 hour show, which they did, and it was their first of many. After a year of this, the drummer wasn't getting out of it what he wanted, and so parted ways with the squirrelmasters spring 2005. Kari's cousin, Kirk, was brought in at that point. After another year of writing songs, playing 4 hour sets, and recording one CD, the bass player too decided it was his time to move on to something else in spring 2007, and so we enlisted Kirk's longtime jam-friend Gabe on the bass guitar. With that, the band scrapped a majority of their songs, putting them in a pile to be picked apart later for lyrics, basically. They began randomly jamming during practices instead of playing through the same tired songs over and over again. This opened up a valley of new ideas and new styles for songs, and the new direction the music was taking prompted the band to rename themselves something more fitting, which led to the squirrelmasters becoming Sweet Assault. ... 'cause it's like a kick in the nuts from a little girl with pigtails.
