LET'S GET AWESOME. With a 6-week US tour under their belts, a self-produced LP out the door, shining response from press, a song on the top daytime soap opera, and blossoming fan bases across the country, Boston rock band THE VITAL MIGHT continues to churn out hard-hitting music that doesn't shy away from mixing pop rock with metal, funk with prog, and good old fashioned songwriting with psychedelic breaks. Singer/songwriter/guitarist Andy Milk leads the band forward with introspective yet decisive lyrics, a passionate multiple octave range, and a wall of inventive guitar. Drummer Evan Kraker takes a page from The Mars Volta's John Theodore with his left-of-center but grounded beats while Ben Didsbury rounds out the power trio with thunderous low end and occasional spastic, head-spinning effects. In September 2007, "Don't Mind Me", featuring Morphine's Dana Colley on saxophone, was played during The Young and the Restless on CBS. The band also recently placed 2nd in the Atlantic Records/Ralph Lauren nationwide music video search and performed in the much-heralded WBCN Rock N' Roll Rumble (attended previously by local heavy-hitters Powerman 5000, Til Tuesday, Dresden Dolls). Currently, the band is writing new material for the release of 1 of 2 EPs over the next year, continuing to push its boundaries by getting both mellower and heavier than they had previously. Kier Byrnes of The Noise said about Obsidian, the band's debut release, "Thirteen songs that combine thundering percussion, massive guitars, and clever poetry, and create a sonic experience like no other." Several more US tours are also in the works over the next year, the first one starting in October 2007 and taking the across the eastern third of the US.
