doesn't seem right....

okay, i'm just a little curious about some of these bands in the top 10 or even 20...they have got so many votes already, enough to be ranked very well, but they're brand new here and have barely a couple hundred page visits; some of the music isn't terribly impressive either...i'm not saying we're the best ever, but...come on.

obviously the text messaging thing is helping them...that kind of takes it out of the hands of anyone here on the site and it becomes a contest about who can get more people to use their damn phones (or who can pay the most for a service to text in votes).

the vote trading is bad but this seems even more ridiculous because these bands don't even have to interact on the website at all.  it just seems wrong to me.

My friend Thom is in a contest right now with the Boston Herald, and he posted this up on his MySpace.. I think it's something everyone involved here in Music Nation should take to heart. I think it's awesome anyway. (His band is the Bon Savants.. they're great).
"At their best, these kinds of contests can expose music fans to great new music that they might not otherwise hear. I believe this is the intent of the Herald contest, and we're grateful they chose to put us in the same class as many of our favorite bands. Is there any real meaning in a head-to-head matchup of one song against another? I can't think of any. And of course the Herald benefits by getting traffic to their site, but that's the perpetual tradeoff between musicians and media sources - we get paid in "exposure", which is truly something any band needs, though the occasional paycheck would be nice too. So listen to some great tunes, vote, have fun, but don't believe there's any real significance in the outcome. -T"

yes, i've found similar anomalies in my contest. my personal favorite is: the contest i am in is for new england only, yet there are quite a few bands (some in the top 10/ top 20) who are from areas quite outside of new england. i wouldn't worry if i were you though, you guys have strong enough material to carry you through the bs. good luck.
