Music Nation is a Music Video Competition for Independent Artists

ok-so i'm a really big music geek, and every time i get a new cd, i grade them and keep track to make a year end list of my favorite (i know, its ridiculous).  but since the onslaught of fall music is starting, i wanted to make a note of my top 5 albums of the year so far....

1.Amy Winehouse-this album i keep going back to, and I bought that shit the day it came out, b4 she was everywhere. as per usual, i'm ahead of the curve. ne way, her voice, style, lyrics are so raw and unique.  i just hope she doesn't die of an overdose b4 she makes her next record.

2. M.I.A. i think it's actually musically better than the Wino-totally diverse, globetrotting explosion of MIA being crazy and cool.  everything she does it completely unique. luv this crazy ho.

3. Arctic Monkeys-fucking a. these guys are freakin 12 years old (actually, no) and this cd will no doubt top critics polls all over the globe.  their last album was great, but in just a little over a year this album shows unbelievable growth and potential. staggering.

4.Bloc Party-I wasn't crazy about "Weekend in the City" at first.  but it completely won me over by unconsiously/subconsciously becoming the cd i put on when i get bored of the 13500 other songs on my ipod. slow burning, infectious melodies are paired w/ lead singer Kele's beautiful voice and magnificent lyrics to make indie rock gold. GOLD!

5. The Editors-The Editors will ruin your life in all the right ways.  please buy at least 10 copies of both their albums and give them anyone u care about.  they are miserable brits and no current band makes misery sound more beautiful. ugh. tragic and glorious. 

Boo of the year-RILO KILEY! now, i love, LOVE the last 2 rilo kiley albums.  i thought they were simple, beautiful, and honest records.  jenny lewis told magnificent stories in all her lyrics and has a wonderful voice to boot.  now, y then, with all their glorious capabilities did they sic on me the horror that is Under the Blacklight. Why Rilo Kiley, Why? It's not a terrible album, by any means (it's no sam's town, or nickelback), but it lacks any ingenuity, feeling or originality.  the first song sounds like george harrison. track 6 is fleetwood mac.  don't even get me starting on track 7.  b/c it's fucking LIONEL RICHIE! yes, LIONEL RICHIE! i dont mind when Lionel does Lionel, but Rilo Kiley doing Lionel is a definite NO! BOO!!! 

now, there will probably be some shifts in my grand list before years end, as The Hives, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, PJ Harvey, Mary J Blidge and a slew of others all have new albums coming out (or just came out this week). fall music season! yes yes!
